We went to visit the elephant village on Thursday. This is actually one of the volunteer sites that people can choose from at Idex. I think there are two people here, taking care of the elephants. The elephants “work” at the Amber Fort where tourists can take a ride on them, and then they head home to here. They are gigantic, and I was terrified to ride one, but I thought they were pretty. Here are some photos:
The view
Elephant!
This was me very far from the elephant, and Monika, who was taking the photo said, “Get closer!”
This is me, “closer.” I jumped each time it moved.
Yes, that’s paint on the elephant!

View at the back which I thought was nice.
Four people rode elephants. This is the second one they brought out.

Isn’t it gigantic?!?!
Off they go.
View of their home
Two kids who wanted me to take their photo. They were cute. I forget their names. 😦

Hello, there!
First tuk tuk ride in Jaipur. It kept breaking down and the driver had to restart it by pulling on the engine with a rope.
The meter. It doesn’t work.
On the way back to the volunteer house.
On the way back to the volunteer house.
The tuk tuk broke down mid way home, and Quinnie had to press on the brake while the driver pulled on the engine.
Random tire shop
A temple that is only open one day a year to celebrate Lord Shiva’s birthday. It was on the way home.

It makes me so sad for these elephants. There is no need to add to their suffering by painting them!!! 😦
